Common questions and troubleshooting tips for M2 Garmin Sync.
Frequently Asked Questions
I didn't receive my magic link
Magic links arrive within a minute in most cases. If you don't see one:
- Check your spam / junk folder — the email comes from a
@m2-sync.mindpax.meaddress. - Check that you typed the right email — the address must exactly match the one your administrator registered.
- Wait a minute and request a new link — old links expire quickly.
- Still nothing? Contact the study coordinator. They can verify your account exists and re-send a welcome email if needed.
My Garmin data isn't showing up
Garmin syncs in two stages: device → Garmin Connect → M2 Garmin Sync. If data is missing:
- Open the Garmin Connect app on your phone and pull-to-refresh. Confirm the data you expect actually shows up there. If it doesn't, the issue is between the device and Garmin — not on the M2 side.
- Wait a few minutes. Garmin webhooks are usually fast but can be delayed during high load on Garmin's side.
- Check that your connection is still active on the Garmin page in M2 Garmin Sync. If it shows Disconnected, reconnect it.
How often does data sync?
Garmin sends a webhook to M2 every time new data is uploaded from your device. In practice this means:
- Activity / steps / heart rate — within minutes of your device syncing to Garmin Connect.
- Sleep data — typically the morning after, once your device finishes processing the night's sleep.
- Workouts — within minutes of finishing the activity (assuming your device is connected to your phone).
Is my data secure?
Yes. M2 Garmin Sync:
- Connects to Garmin via the official OAuth 2.0 PKCE flow — your password is never seen or stored.
- Stores data in an encrypted, access-controlled database hosted within the Mindpax research infrastructure.
- Limits access to authorized researchers and administrators only.
- Lets you disconnect at any time, immediately revoking further data collection.
Can I export my data?
Data export is not currently a self-service feature. If you would like a copy of the data collected from your account, contact the study coordinator.
Can I delete my data?
You can disconnect your Garmin account at any time to stop further collection. Deletion of historical data is handled by the study coordinator in line with the study's data retention policy and applicable regulations.
Can I change my name or email?
If you have the user role, your name and email are set by an administrator
and can't be edited from the profile page. This is intentional: for research
integrity, the study coordinator maintains the participant registry.
- Typo in your name? Ask the study coordinator — an admin can fix it in seconds.
- New email address? Ask the study coordinator to update it. You'll receive a notification at both the old and new address once the change is made.
If your role is researcher or admin, you can edit your name directly from
your profile page.
